DVD Roundup - Vampire Dino edition

No. This is not a good movie. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a dumb movie, stalling at every chance to achieve some emotional depth for cheap tactics, and delivering instead a mash-up of all the previous movies, just a lot more stupid. Still, if there is one thing I'm grateful for, it's the Nosferatu-esque scene where the Indoraptor creeps on the child like he's a gothic vampire. I didn't know I wanted dino-vampire movie, but I know I do now. Listen to our full review in the player below.

I'll admit, I like the concept of Tag; basically a bunch of grown men continuing on with a game of tag they've been playing since they were kids. However, it's got some really questionable and dark humour for what seems to be a light-hearted movie. I think I wanted something more akin to The Goonies in their forties and not a slightly puerile Hangover. Listen to our full review in the player below.

There's something about tumultuous whims of the sea that is so completely awe-inspiring and terrifying to me, and stories about people surviving Poseidon's tantrums are always so intriguing. Based on a true story, Adrift sees a woman trying to steer a broken boat and an injured partner to Hawaii with no radio. Perhaps a fascinating character study but, come on, we all know how it's going to end.

Now First Reformed does sound like an interesting film. Written and directed by the writer of Taxi Driver, Paul Schrader, it sees Ethan Hawke play a priest who has a crisis of faith after some bad experiences. This film has been receiving a lot of hype, calling it one of the best films of the year. Definately one to keep an eye on.
