Fallout 4 Automatron DLC Review

On the 22nd of March the first of three announced Fallout 4 DLC came out in the form of Automatron, costing around £7.99 if you hadn't purchased the season pass. There has been a lot of moaning about season passes recently, and Fallout 4 was brought up in the complaints. I usually don't buy season passes as very few games now a days have any re-playability. I have always found Bethesda to be good with there DLC though, producing great quality add-ons to all their other games, so I didn't understand why they were in the spotlight for something that nearly always delivered.

The story revolves around The Machinist, who is trying to bring peace to the wasteland with their automatron soldiers. You get a distress message from a group who are under attack from these robots, and when you find the group they are under attack from the Machinists robots Upon defeating them you find the sole survivor, a robot named Ada who wants answers to why the Machinist sent these automatrons to attack her group.

The story isn't a long one, but it brings in two new buildings to explore, one which you can have as a new settlement. A new raider group called the Rust Devils is introduced, plus many slapped together automatrons. On top of that you now get to build multiple new robot friend as well as getting Ada as a new companion. I enjoyed this add on as the aspect of building robots is really cool idea, and the Rust Devils come with a new armour set based on robot scraps.

The one massive issue I had was with the end of the story. When you fight the Machinist it took me three attempts to defeat him; the fight is based in stages and if you interrupt the Machinist during a stage the game will just loop two attacks, never moving on to the next stage. On my second attempt the Duel Bot fell through the floor upon defeating, again looping the same two attacks from the Machinist in an endless cycle which frustrated me no end. Final verdict 7/10: it's a good add with an enormous amount of customisation for your robot friends. The only downside in my opinion was the final boss battle which had me frustrated that there was no fail safe if the game did glitch. Now we just have to wait for the next two add ons. Richee
