Neill Blomkamps Doing an Aliens Sequel

So it was announced recently that Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9, Elysium, and the up coming Chappie, will be doing his own Alien film. Rumour is that it will take place after Aliens, ignoring Alien 3 and the terrible Alien Resurrection, rather then rebooting the series as a whole, which I don't think I would have minded with Blomkamp at the helm. Sigourney Weaver has been cast to return as Ripley, and I've got everything crossed that Michael Biehn will return as Hicks. I'm pretty sure we can also expect Sharlto Copley to have quite a large role in this film, too. Issues with making this a sequel to Aliens is the fact the actors have aged between the time line and how they're going to tackle this. The Aliens film came out in 1986, with Blomkamps Alien film due out in 2017, so that's a whole 31 years between these films. They could set up that the cryo tubes were damaged keeping them in stasis but failed to prevent them ageing, or it could just take place after Ripley and Hicks have been recovered, and they have now set up their own group of bad ass Alien hunters and its been so many years later.

Either way I'm extremely happy one of my favourite films might actually be getting a worthy sequel with one of the most interesting directors around at the moment. What do you guys think though? Do you think they should just leave the franchise alone, or perhaps you think Blomkamp is the wrong person for the film let us know in the comments. Richee
