DVD Round Up - Ultimate Warrior edition

First off, I'm sorry for the complete lack of posts lately. I've been quite busy organising my contribution to the Springtide festival that's coming next week, so hopefully we'll be back to normal very soon.

In the meantime, let's catch up with the latest DVD/Blu-Ray/download releases. First up, we have Carrie, the remake of the film of the Stephen King book. The film centers on a girl who discovers she has telekenisis when she starts her belated and unexpected period. The film suffers from a homogenised cast; Carrie is not nearly different enough to warrant the kind of abuse she get's. I imagine this film will be popular amongst the young teenagers, but it doesn't even attempt the depth's it could of reached.

Ah, Spike Lee's Oldboy. What can we say about this that isn't completely hateful? Erm... at least it makes you realise just how brilliant the orginal Chan-wook Park version is. Nominated for our Why Did This Happen? award at our end of year award show, this version of Oldboy was one of our lowest rated films of last year. Only watch this if you are a sucker for torture or if you have a morbid curiosity to see it. Otherwise, invest in the original version.

The latest Disney offering is also the subject of our podcast this week. Frozen has become Disney, nay, animations highest grossing film ever, and is even spawing a musical. Whatever you may feel about this film, the release of this film during the Easter holidays will gurantee mass watching from the kids, and them repeatedly singing Let It Go in your ears.

Unfortunately this week, James Brian Hellwig, also known as The Ultimate Warrior, died this week aged 54. Three days previously he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and the day before he died the Ultimate Warrior Ultimate Collection on DVD and Blu-Ray. If you're a big fan of Hellwig and love wrestling, then make sure you get this special edition.
