DVD Round up: Disappointment edition

Ah, cynical filmaking. It is definately true that celebrity is the ultimate gimmick in this day and age, and Disney's Maleficent is a horribly misguided film. How can you take seriously a film when you know it would never of existed if Angelina Jolie hadn't wanted to play the Sleeping Beauty bad guy? But, yeah, Maleficent isn't the bad guy in this film. Another thing that angers me about it. You can read my full review of the film here.

Ergh. Is it really a good idea to put the producer, writer and director of a film in the starring role too? Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy and Ted, indeed had some funny ideas for his ironic western, but A Million Ways to Die in the West is just a bit too dead-pan, too self-conscious, and there is just too much MacFarlane in it. It kind of feels like a Family Guy spin-off without the Griffin's. Listen to our review of the film in the player below.

Don't forget that you can subscribe to our podcast on itunes. We've had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle review out this week, and look forward to our Monster Animal Double Bill, out tomorrow. We have a Virgin Viewing for Richee, as he watches the 1942 horror classic Cat People for the first time, and we have a review for the werewolf B-movie Wolfcop. See you then!
