Broken Lizard reviews

So with the recent news that the comedy group Broken Lizard (Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan,Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske) our working on sequals to Super Troopers and Beerfest, I thought it would be a good time to do a quick review on the four of the five films of their's that I have seen, missing out the first film they did together Puddle Cruiser from 1996.

Super Troopers - 2001 crime comedy follows the group as state troopers who like to have a good time while on duty, playing random games and messing with the people they pull over. But when the city budget gets cut they have to go against the local police department in trying to unearth a new drug cartel. This was the first film I saw of theirs and being from jolly old England I didn't realise straight away they were a comedy group and just thought they were actors in a film. With Brian Cox as their captain, this is their best film to date in my opinion, with Kevin Heffernan standing out as the misfit of the group with some anger management issues. I'd rate this an 8/10

Club Dread - 2004 saw the guys in a horror comedy with Bill Paxton as Coconut Pete, a washed up rock star who now happens to have his own beach resort. When the resort Staff start turning up dead the group have to try and work together to figure out who the murderer is. Was expecting a little more from this comedy slasher. I didn't happen to watch this till after Super Troopers and Beerfest not a bad film just not that original, really nothing that hadn't been done up to that point. I'd rate this 6/10

Beerfest - 2006 comedy follows two brothers who go to Oktoberfest to spread the ashes of their recently deceased grandad at the German event. Upon stumbling into Beerfest they are insulted by the German team and challenged at Beerfest (think the Olympics for alchohlics). After getting beaten hands down the brothers go back to America to train a team for the next Beerfest. First Broken Lizard film I owned and got all my friends to watch it just for the hilarious twist they take on Kevin Hefferman character Landfill, put on top of that a great overly camp German team plus Steve Lemme as Fink a jewish super nerd who has a disturbing scene with a frog. I'd rate this 7/10

The Slammin Slamon - 2009 Comedy about the staff of a restaurant run by former heavyweight boxer Cleon "Slammin" Salmon played by the late great Michael Clarke Duncan who happens to be in debt with the triads I think? So he offers a prize to the waiter who makes the most money and a severe beating to who ever earns the least. Not a great story but done very well and very entertaining through out enjoyed Jay Chandrasekhar's character Nuts who has multiple personality disorder and is a bit nuts when he doesn't have his pills. I'd rate this 6/10

Well there you go peeps what do you think what's your Broken Lizard film and don't forget to check out the podcast this week we review the Oldboy remake, thanks for reading and hopefully listening too. Richee
