The Place Beyond the Pines

Could Derek Cianfrance, the director of Bradley Coopers and Ryan Gosling's latest movie The Place Beyond the Pines, be the next big thing in cinema? How many of the current bout of directors do you imagine will be the influence of many a director to come. Very few I imagine. Whom of the contemporary set will we be uttering under the same breath with Alfred Hitchcock, Jean-Luc Goddard and Steven Speilburg? Well I hope for one it will be Derek Cianfrance. His imaginatice filming techniques took inspiration from Dogme 95, in shooting the bank robbing scenes all in one take, to the expansive yet suffocating shots of the open road. He was even inspired by America's Wildest Police Chases. With only two other films under his belt, Cianfrance has still got a while to perfect his skills, but I for one am excited to see where this director will take us in the future.

Do you agree with me? Which director do you think will be renowned in the future? Let us know in the comments?
